Whiskey Town Lost Barrel Series 26 year old Cask Strength, 50.5%, $125

On the nose, this Indiana distilled, Kentucky aged whiskey is fruity and bright. Lemon candies, Welch's grape juice, and a bit of musty paper rest atop fig cookies and vanilla bean. Despite the age, the oak is subtle and present throughout without overwhelming the fruitier flavors. The palate leads with tannic tea, raspberry jam, and damp oak. The finish is woody, with fruit fading into vanilla sweetness.

“This bourbon is a young spirit that surprises in its approachability and smooth character. What it lacks in complexity it makes up for with persistent clarity on the palate, though a few drops of water are necessary to really open it up. Good whiskey, good story, portly pups, what’s not to get behind?”

“There are some very welcome and flavor-forward notes here….

…It’s certainly something to keep an eye on.
